Abstract

1303241 Power unit for toys DUNCAN TONG 8 Jan 1970 [28 Feb 1969] 10931/69 Heading A6S A power unit for toys has an integral housing consisting of compartments for an electric motor and a battery, together with means 14 and 18 for securing it to a toy, and a drive shaft (36) which extends from the toy 4 is provided with means for driving the toy. A switch for stopping or reversing the motor may be mounted on the unit or on the toy. The drive shaft may be horizontal or vertical, projecting from the side or bottom of the unit. Fig. 6 shows one embodiment, with housing 2, battery 6, and motor 4 arranged to drive the shaft 52 which extends vertically downward from the housing to drive two road wheels 56 which are fixedly mounted on a common axle, which is rotatably mounted on a wheel support member 54 which is itself mounted for rotation about the drive shaft so that if the road wheels are not able to rotate due to an obstacle then the wheel support member will itself rotate until the road wheels are pointing in a direction such that their movement is no longer restricted.
