Abstract

1,265,647. Toy vehicle acceleration mechanism. MATTEL INC. 13 Feb., 1970 [26 May, 1969], No. 7138/70. Heading A6S. A device for accelerating unpowered toy vehicles (403) along a roadway (413), comprises a rotating drum (419) whose periphery (421) can engage said vehicle and provide the necessary force for acceleration, and means (429) for applying pressure to a part of the vehicle opposite to the drum to ensure efficient contact with the drum and prevent the vehicle from being dislodged from the track. The drum may be placed horizontally alongside the track to engage the side of the vehicle, underneath the track to engage the underside of the vehicle through an aperture in the track, or above the track to engage the roof of the vehicle, in which case it may be supported by a movable arm so as to follow the contours of the vehicle and the track itself supplies the pressure. The drum may be powered by an electric motor.
