Class 132(3) A toy propelled by a clockwork or other motor represents an animate figure and progresses along a zig-zag path. As shown, a clockwork motor. is housed within a casing 10 and drives a shaft 13 carrying driving wheels 25, 26 which have crank pins 27, 28 for giving foot members 33, 34 and supporting elements 36, 37 vertical and horizontal movement. A shaft 14 also driven by the motor carries arms 47, 48 to which are attached cords and weights, and the foot supporting element 36 is extended beyond the shaft 14 to engage a plate 55 secured to the head 53. A bracket 30, Fig. 3, supporting an idle wheel 29 disposed to the rear of the driving wheels is adjustable to permit steering of the toy. The toy operates by the forward end of each foot member momentarily engaging the running surface during each revolution of the associated driving wheel and the toy is subjected to a drag first on one side and then on the other, the changes of direction so caused being assisted by the out-of-balance effect produced by the rotating arms and weights 47, 48, 51, 52. The head 53 is oscillated by the member 36. The drive to the shaft 14 may be via a free-wheel mechanism such that the phase relationship between this shaft and shaft 13 may alter and the resulting course followed by the toy thus vary. The toy may represent a four-legged animal, four foot members and associated driving wheels then being provided. According to the Provisional Specification a rattle or small bell may be attached to the arm cords.
