Abstract

Articles are given a smooth matt finish by treating their surfaces with a flocculent precipitate of rubber obtained from an aqueous dispersion thereof, admixed with starch. The flucculent precipitate may be obtained by known means such as the use of coagulants or dilute dispersions, and may be made before or after the addition of the starch. According to an example, 100 parts of a 60 per cent latex are diluted to 5 per cent; a 5 per cent solution containing 120 parts of sodium silicate, and then a 5 per cent solution containing 96 parts of aluminium sulphate are stirred in: a flocculent precipitate is formed. This is drained on a filter plate until a mass containing 16-17 per cent solids results. A weight of starch equal to that or the solids is ground in until a smooth cream is obtained. This may be diluted as required. Vulcanizing, compounding, &c. ingredients may be added. Specifications 219,635 and 290,313, [both in Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], are referred to.ALSO:Articles, particularly those of, or containing rubber, are given a smooth matt finish, by coating their surfaces with a flocculent precipitate of rubber obtained from an aqueous dispersion thereof, admixed with starch. This may be diluted as required. Vulcanizing, compounding, &c. ingredients may be added. Soluble products may be removed. Specifications 219,635 and 290,313, [both in Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], are referred to.
