Abstract
Artificial fibres to be given a permanent wool-like curliness are twisted to at least four times the normal amount, and preferably as much as possible, wound in this state, moistened at a relatively high temperature, dried, and twisted in the opposite direction. The twisting in the opposite direction may be carried to beyond the zero point. Moistening is effected by steaming under pressure or by immersing the bobbins in boiling or nearly boiling water, with or without wetting agents. The fibres may be cut up into staple lengths. Examples are given of the production of curled fibres from cuprammonium, viscose, and acetate artificial silk yarns.
