Abstract

501,597. Artificial flies. DEANS, R. C. Sept. 1, 1937, No. 23881. [Class 48] A wingless . artificial fly has a hackle consisting of a bunch of cellulosic or like synthetic fibres fastened to a wingless body. A suitable length of fibre may be coiled or wound on a former to form a bunch which is secured to the body and the loops cut; or short lengths, which may be slit, are bunched and secured in place. The hook 13 is first bound with material to con. stitute the body, and a silk thread 14 is wound round the neck of the shank and the end of the bunch 1, and the loops are then cut. The bunch may be twisted into a figure-eight before being, secured. A few strands of similar material may be applied to form a tail. The cellulosic material may be dyed and may be reinforced by silk threads, hair, gut, or feathers.
