Abstract

396,244. Weather-shields for insulators. BULLERS, Ltd. and DAGMALL, H. C. R., 6, Laurence Pountney Hill, London. Oct. 1'9, 1932, No. 29271. [Class 36.] An insulator is protected from sun and rain by a shield which is supported above the insulator by means which offer high resistance to the conduction of heat from the shield to the insulator and which provide a free air space across the top of the insulator body between the shield and the top of the insulator. The supporting means may be carried by the top portion of the insulator, by the conductor supported by the insulator, or by a clip which secures the conductor to the insulator. The shield may be of galvanized iron, papier machÚ or asbestos composition, and additional shields may be disposed intermediate of the ends of the insulator. In the construction shown, a pin-type insulator 1 supporting a conductor 4 is provided with a domed shield 2 which is attached to. the insulator by a clip 3 having depending limbs which are formed with fingers 11 to grip the head 12 of the insulator above the tie-wire groove 9. To prevent the conduction of heat from the shield to the insulator, the clip 3 and the shield 2 contact with each other only at their central portions, where they are riveted together. Specification 313,626, [Class 36, Electricity, Conducting &c.], is referred to.
