Abstract

Yeast adenylic acid (adenosine triphosphoric acid) is converted into muscle adenylic acid (an adenosine phosphoric acid) by hydrolysis at a temperature of 10-50 DEG C. The starting material or crude extract containing it is treated with a hydrolysing agent such as barium hydroxide, caustic soda or mineral acid solution at ordinary or slightly raised temperature, a precipitant then added and the product separated from the precipitate. The adenosine phosphoric acid thus obtained is useful in the therapy of the circulation of the blood. Examples are given. The starting material may be prepared by (1) extracting yeast in the cold with trichloracetic acid, mixing with mercury acetate under feebly alkaline conditions, decomposing with hydrogen sulphide and precipitating the adenosine triphosphoric acid as its calcium salt using calcium chloride and alcohol; (2) treating with water plasmolysates obtained at a low temperature from yeast, eliminating the undissolved constituents, and if desired treating the solution with absorbents, e.g. bentonite, and precipitating with organic solvents, e.g. methyl alcohol, the solution remaining after removing the absorbent; (3) extracting yeast with trichloracetic acid before or after plasmolysis, giving a crude material; (4) plasmolysing yeast with ethyl acetate at a temperature below 15 DEG C. and introducing into boiling water.
