Abstract
Muscle adenylic acid is prepared by adding an alkaline earth metal hydroxide to a crude extract containing muscle adenyl-pyrophosphoric acid, heating the alkaline earth metal salt of muscle adenyl-pyrophosphoric acid thus obtained in the presence of an alkaline earth metal hydroxide, eliminating the inorganic phosphate, and isolating the muscle adenylic acid from the filtrate. The crude extract used as starting material may be obtained by extracting animal tissues, e.g. the muscle or brawn of a horse, with trichloracetic acid while cooling. As a result of the treatment with an alkaline earth metal hydroxide, the alkaline earth metal phosphate precipitates and is removed by filtering or centrifuging; the precipitation of the phosphate may be completed by the addition of the acetate of the corresponding alkaline earth metal. The isolation of the muscle adenylic acid from the filtrate is effected with the aid of a heavy metal salt, e.g. lead acetate, and the salt decomposed with acid. Examples are given.ALSO:A crude extract of animal tissue, e.g. the muscle or brawn of a horse, with cold trichloracetic acid is heated with excess of an alkaline earth metal hydroxide, the phosphate removed by filtering or centrifuging, and muscle adenylic acid then isolated from the filtrate by treatment with a heavy metal salt, e.g. lead acetate, followed by decomposition with acid. Examples are given.
