Abstract
396,104. Softening water. AKTIEBOLAGET FILTRUM, 2, Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm. Jan. 23, 1933, No. 2128. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1932. [Class 46.] In base-exchange water-softening apparatus regenerating solution is introduced into a layer of water located above the base-exchange material in such manner as to set the laver in rotation without disturbing the material and thus secure a uniform distribution of the regenerating solution. In the apparatus the hard water main 14 has valved connections through pipes 15, 16 to the upper end of the treating container 10 and the soft water main has similar connections through pipes 22, 21 with the lower end of the container. The pipes 15, 22 have valved connections to a drain pipe 36. A rising pipe 37, open at the top, is also connected to the drain pipe, and a testing cock 40 is provided. Regenerating solution is drawn from a container 29 by water from the pipe 15 which is passed through'an ejector 27 and a pipe 26. The upper end of the pipe 26 is above the base-exchange material in the container 10 and is connected there to a distributing system consisting of four radial pipes 30 having lateral outflow openings, preferably inclined upwardly, so that the inflowing solution causes the water with which it becomes mixed to rotate. Baffles 32 may be arranged below the pipes 30 so as to prevent the water between the pipes and the baseexchange material taking part in the rotary movement. A pump may be used instead of the ejector 27.
