Abstract

457,149. Treating sewage and foul waters. MASCHINENFABRIK BUCKAU R. WOLF AKT.-GES., 82, Schonebeckerstrasse, Magdeburg, Germany. Jan. 3, 1936, No. 289. Convention date, Jan. 3, 1935. [Class 111] Waste water, such as that containing fibrous matter from paper and cellulose factories, is, after addition of a flocculating agent, such as an aluminium salt or other electrolyte, mixed with foam, which causes the fibrous matter to rise to the surface. Waste water from a container A is passed through pipes 1, 8, and a vertical mixing chamber 9 to a separating tank 14. Flocculating agents are supplied through pipes 28, 29 to the pipe 1. A part of the waste water is diverted through a pipe 2 to a foam producer B, such as described in Specification 449,298, [Group XXI], to which foaming agents are supplied from containers 5, 6, and from which foam passes through a pipe 7 to the pipe 8. The mixture overflows from the chamber 9 and passes over and under annular baffles 10, 11, 12, into the tank 14. The fibrous material collects as a felt-like mass on the surface and the cleared liquid passes round the edge of a plate 26 into the lower conical part 15 of the tank and then through a pipe 17 and over an adjustable weir 19 to an overflow chamber 18. The fibrous matter is collected by rotary scrapers 25 and pushed over one edge into a radial trough 21 for discharge by means of a scraper chain 22.
