Abstract

442,510. Treating sewage. DORR CO., Inc., 247, Park Avenue, New York, U.S.A. June 2, 1934, No. 16515. Convention date, July 14, 1933. [Class 111] Sewage sludge is subjected to digestion in tanks 11, 27 successively, being agitated with evolution of gas in the tank 11 and allowed to settle in the tank 27. The sludge is fed intermittently to the tank 11 through a pipe 18 and passes on to the tank 27 through a pipe 28. The tank 11 is fitted with heating coils 21 and a shaft 22 carrying agitators 23, 24, 25. Each agitator comprises a disc 39, Fig. 3, with curved blades 40 above and below, the discs for the agitators 24, 25 being horizontal while that for the agitator 23 is inclined. Gas given off in the tank 11 collects in a dome 20 and is passed through a pipe 32 to a gas holder 31 above the tank 27. Clear liquid is discharged from the tank 27 through a pipe 30 and sludge through a pipe 29.
