Abstract
Vessel has an inlet for the liquid to be treated and an outlet for the treated liquid. The liquid is stirred and gas introduced by a venturi ejector arranged a little below the level beneath which the suspended materials normally rest with the lower opening of its outlet cone directed towards the bottom of the vessel. Pref. the opening is about 50 cm above the bottom. The outlet cone may be vertical, pref. co-axial with the vertical axis of the vessel, and an upright solid cone may be located on the bottom of the vessel also co-axial with said axis. As well as purifying waste water by oxygenation, for example as in a known activated sludge process, appts. can be used for any process in which a liquid contg. suspended solids is to be treated by intimate contact with a gas so as to obtain e.g. after decanting, the deposit of the solids. Appts. avoids the risk of blocking of the pump in the ejector, after a period of shutdown, by settlement of the solids and is less affected by sudden changes in liquid level. The gas dispersion is more efficient.
