Abstract
452,549. Treating distillery wash; manures. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DE NOUVEAUX APPAREILS S.I.N.A., 9, Rue Beethoven, Paris. Nov. 22, 1935, No. 32429. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1934. [Class 111] Distillery wash is neutralized, e.g. by the addition of lime, and treated with ferric and aluminium sulphate, the resulting heavy flocculation being separated by decanta. tion, a clear unfermented liquid remain. ing. The resulting sludge, either in the liquid form or after drying or the like, is used as a manure. The clear decanted liquid may be re-used in distillery operations or its purification can be completed by passage over a bacterial filter bed and through an activated carbon filter which renders it fit for discharge into rivers &c. Distillery wash enters a vat 1 while a quantity of milk of lime flows in from a tank 2. The neutralized wash is delivered by a pump 3 into a vat 4 which is kept stirred. The vat being full, solutions of ferric and aluminium sulphate are delivered from a tank 8 via an annular distributing pipe 9. Stirring is stopped and the mixture is allowed to settle. The clear liquid is withdrawn through the device 6 and the sludge is subsequently evacuated through a pipe 7.
