Abstract
450,435. Latex. KELLITT, W., Atherton Estate, Siliau, Malay States. Sept. 9, 1935, 25062. [Class 70] Latex is treated before shipment by filtering it, treating it with ammonia or otherwise rectifying its pH value, and passing it to a settling container to remove impurities. Latex is poured into tank 2 through a filter 3 and ammonia passed into it through pipe 4 which is lowered into the latex. The latex may also be stirred by stirrer 7. It is then transferred to the settling containers 8, by means of a chamber 9 operated by compressed air and pipes 14, 13. The settling containers, as described in Specification 450,434, [Group I], include stirrers 21, 22 and a sludge trap 18 closable by valve 19. After the latex has settled for 3 to 7 days, the sludge trap is closed and the latex run off through cock 27 into drums 33 contained in a discharging device 26, the latex passing through filters 30 and 31 and a screen 32 to withhold froth before passing into the drums through pipes 35 reaching to the bottom of the drums to avoid frothing. The latex in the settling containers may be stirred before being drawn off or latex of different rubber contents may be drawn off by having discharge cocks mounted at different levels on the settling containers.
