Abstract
394,658. Printing-machines. GAVED, C., 3, Castledine Road, and MANDEVILLE, J. P., 14, Sydney Street, Chelsea, both in London. Nov. 24, 1931, No. 32523. [Class 100 (ii).] Platen ofset machines are constructed with two or more offset surfaces which are arranged back-to-back and permanently located between the platen and the bed, and means is provided for inverting the offset surfaces so that at successive printing strokes an impression from a printing surface is received on one or more flat offset surfaces simultaneously with the transference to the work of an impression from another offset surface previously received from the same printing surface or surfaces. As shown, the offset surfaces are mounted on opposite sides of a carrier 19 pivoted to the frisket fingers 18 of the press, and are rotated through half a revolution by a rack 23 and ratchet 22 as the platen 16 opens. The rack 23 is pivoted to and operated by the swinging platen 16. The carrier 19 may be operated by a striker carried by the ink-roller operating mechanism, or by other means actuated from a periodicallyoperated organ of the press. A spring-controlled plunger 25 engaging in recesses on a disc mounted on the pivot 21 of the carrier 19 holds the carrier in correct printing position. The invention is especially applicable to printing by the dry planographic process.
