Abstract

350,170. Printing-machines. BARKER, R. W., 56, Ludgate Hill, London. -(American Bank Note Co.; 70, Broad Street, Manhattan, New York, U.S.A.) May 1, 1930, No. 13458. [Class 100 (ii).] Inking-apparatus.-In an inking apparatus for applying very viscous ink, such as that used for printing safety grounds of securities, the ink duct is provided with a number of paddles, pivoted to supports reciprocating longitudinally of the duct, and adapted to force the ink into the space between the duct roller and duct blade. The duct 10, provided with a duct roller 12 and duct blade 11, is formed with bearings 23 to receive a slidable bar 24 to which are adjustably and detachably clamped a number of arms 29 to each of which is detachably clamped a plate 33. A paddle 35 is hinged to the front edge of each plate 33 and has a free pivotal movement limited by stops 37, 38 engaging opposite side of the plate 33. The bar 24 is connected by a link 27 to one arm of a bellcrank lever 25, the other end of which is connected by a link 28 to a second bell-crank lever 20 the arms of which are connected to an operating crank pin 21 and to an oscillating arm 17 carrying a pawl 18 actuating the ratchet wheel 13 of the roller 12. During half a revolution of the crank pin 21 the roller 12 remains stationary and the bar 24 is moved to the right in Fig..3. Owing to the resistance of the ink the paddles 35 first turn about their hinges until arrested by the stop 37 and then press the ink bodily toward the roller 12. During the second half revolution of the crank pin 21, the roller 12 is turned to feed the ink to the ductor roller 14 and the bar 24 is returned to its previous position, the paddles 35 reversing and again forcing the ink toward the roller 12. A distributing roller 15 engages the ductor roller 14.
