Abstract

368,459. Printing-machines. GARDNER, E. H., 96, High Holborn, London. Jan. 14, 1931, No. 1305. [Class 100 (ii).] Addressing and like machines; stencils and stencil-printing apparatus.-In an addressing or like machine employing stencils which are fed between guides to printing position, accurate positioning of the stencil is secured and movement thereof during printing is prevented by a stud working through an opening in one of the guides and engaging a perforation in the stencil. The machine shown is of known kind in which stencils B are fed to printing position beneath a platen P by a pusher D, and in which ink is applied by a travelling roller N. A stud r<1> operating as described above is connected by a rod R to a clutch lever F ; the stud may have a conical head and may be positively advanced and withdrawn by a spring or vice versa. Stopping and starting arrangements.-The machine is driven from a rotary wheel H through a clutch comprising a spring-pressed pin j<1> which is normally retracted by a spiral cam g2 on a hook mounted on the end of a pivoted arm G connected to the lever F, and is projected into a recess h<2> in the wheel H when the lever is depressed.
