Abstract

[Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii).] Copying documents, drawings, and the like.-In duplicating-apparatus of the kind employing an impervious printing-surface, such as glass or porcelain, on to which the matter to be copied has been transferred from an original document written with an alkaline or acid ink, the printing- surface is in the form of a complete roller, such as the roller 1 coacting with an impression roller 2, and printing is effected on a web of paper 22, which passes continuously between the rollers and is held stationary, while being cut into sheets, by means of a clamping-blade 33 extending substantially across the width of the paper and of narrow breadth. The blade 33 is arranged adjacent to cutting-apparatus comprising a fixed blade 26 and a vertically reciprocating blade 28. Feeding and registering webs.-The web 22 after leaving the continuously-driven rollers 1, 2 passes over a track 24 consisting of a number of wires stretched over a table 35 provided with a ridge so that when the bar 33 clamps the forward end of the web, the latter forms into a hump 22a which straightens out when the web is released after cutting. A pair of wires 36 pivoted at 37 and a second pair 39 pivoted at 40 rest on the web and assist in straightening out the hump. A wire stirrup 38 pivoted at 37 strips the web off the roller 1. Cutting-apparatus.-The blade 28 is fixed to vertical posts 29 actuated by a cam-operated lever 31 against the action of returning-springs 30. The pressure bar 33, which has a non-metallic clamping-surface, is pressed down by the bars 29 through the intermediary of springs 34. The web is prevented from rising with the return of the blade 28 by a wire stirrup 41 pivoted at 40 and provided with an extension 42 jerked upward by the bar 33 on its return stroke. Impression adjustments and tripping -arrangements.-The roller 1 is mounted in bearings 4 arranged in guides 5. A spring-pressed plunger 6 engaging each bearing 4 is carried in a tubular screw 7 mounted in a lever 8 pivoted at 9 and releasably held in operative position by a catch 10. Inking-apparatus.-The roller 1 is inked by a roller 11 supplied by a roller 12 to which ink is applied. The rollers 11, 12 are mounted in a frame 15, which is pivoted to the main frame at 16 and is connected by a strong spring 18 to a handlever 21 adapted to be turned about a pivot 20 to rock the frame 15 into operative position.
