[Class 31 (ii)] [Also in Group XV] In a paper-punch capable of being used to produce either plain or reinforced perforations, each of the dies co-operating with the punches is formed as a separate unit which can be adjusted or readily removed for renewal. A base 1 has fixed thereto a U-shaped member 3 provided with bushes 8 in which are slidable punches 9. Each punch is raised by a spring 12 and has secured to its lower part an enlargement 13 which carries a resilient pad 15 and a cutting blade 49. The punch co-operates with a die plate 17 adjustably and removably secured to the base 1 by a screw 18 and slot. The upper ends of the punches are connected to a crossbar 10 by pins 11. The punches are operated by a hand lever 5 pivoted at 6 and acting through links 54, slotted to receive the cross-bar 10, and a bowed spring 56 bearing on the crossbar. Each reinforcing strip 37 is fed from a reel 38 between rolls 29, 34 provided respectively with serrations 31, 36. The upper roll 29 is rotated one step at each operation of the lever 5 by a pin on an arm 23 co-operating with a ratchet wheel 20. The feed of both strips 37 can be stopped by rocking the arm 23 by a finger-piece 25 to inoperative position in which it is retained by a spring 27. The feed of one strip can be stopped by depressing a roller 34 by a cam 59 operated by an arm 57 and acting on a spring arm 33 carrying the roller. Trays 60 may be provided for waste, and a gauge member may be mounted in a slot 63. A single punch only may be provided.
