Nov. 26, 1931, No. 26698/32. Divided on 389,912, [Group XXVI.] [Class 38 (iv).] Governing means for a prime mover, such as a turbine, in electrical ship propulsion plant comprises a speed-responsive governor the setting of which may be varied, and means for interlocking the governor speed-setting device with the electrical control gear to ensure that the operation of the electrical gear is properly co-ordinated with the operation of the governor. The speed-governor is of the fluid-pressure type, and comprises an oil pump 1 driven by the turbine, and supplying oil to a spring- loaded piston 6 which actuates the pilot valve 27 of the servomotor 31 of the steam admission valve 29 through the linkage 23, 26. The leakaway valve 5 in the oil system, which determines the speed-setting, has three concentric ported rings 9, 10, 11. The ring 9 is adjustable by a hand-wheel 13 through gearing 12. This handwheel adjusts simultaneously the controller 21 of the electrical gear so as to secure co-ordination in operation. The outer ring 11 of the valve is actuated by a solenoid 19 which functions when a driven generator or motor is cut out. A pre-emergency speed governor 8 is provided. The governor gear may control two or more throttle valves arranged as described in Specification 389,912.
