Abstract
394,329. Prepayment mechanism for meters. UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES, Ltd., 51, Lincoln's Inn Fields, SMITH, E. W., 186, Kennington Park Road, and CHARLES, A., Meter Works, Rowan Road, Streatham Vale, all in London. Dec. 16, 1931, No. 34903. [Class 27.] In prepayment meter mechanism for use with coins of different values, e.g. shillings and pennies, and involving, as described in Specification 392,530, the use of two measuring wheels a, b, both of which are operated when a shilling is inserted, and the wheel a only when a penny is inserted, a ratchet or free-wheel device c is interposed between the respective measuring wheels. The wheel a is carried by a spindle a<1> and the wheel b by a sleeve b<1> surrounding the spindle. The ratchet wheel c is carried by a sleeve c<1> turning with the spindle and is engaged by pawls mounted on the wheel b so that, when this is rotated after the insertion of a shilling, the wheel a is also rotated.
