Abstract

393,783. Opening coir and other baled fibres. BROWN, J. R., Hinsby House, Glemsford, Suffolk. July 23, 1932, No. 20848. [Class 120 (i).] Coir and other baled fibres or compressed bodies such as compressed cork are opened by feeding slabs or pieces at a controlled rate down a sloping feed table k and through feed rolls l, m to an opener comprising up-striking beater arms d on a carrier c secured to the shaft b, the relative speeds of the feed rolls l, m and the beater being adjusted to secure the desired degree of opening. The opener is formed with a grid plate f and a casing g having downwardly projecting baffles h and a corner baffle i against which the fibres are beaten, while the arms or flails d are mounted on the carrier c by gudgeon pins e. The top feed roller l is vertically movable and is spring or weight loaded. The opened fibre is delivered over the edge p while the waste falls through the grid plate f and dust is removed by suction through the opening q. Two or more openers may be employed in series. Specifications 150,144 and 180,060, [both in Class 120 (i), Spinning, Preparation &c. for], are referred to.
