Abstract
In the production of potassium bicarbonate by the hydrolysis of the double salt KHCO3,MgCO3,4H2O at normal pressure, such an amount of water is employed that the resulting solution does not contain more than 109 grams of potassium bicarbonate per litre. The formation of useless basic magnesium carbonates is thereby avoided and the magnesium carbonate trihydrate formed may be converted into fresh double salt. The potassium bicarbonate may be converted in known manner into potassium carbonate. The hydrolysis may be carried out at 70 DEG C.
