Abstract

391,926. Skein-holders or swifts. HICKS, BULLICK, & CO., Ltd., HICKS, H. C., CLYDE, H., and MARTIN, P., 24, Coates Street, Belfast. Feb. 3, 1932, Nos. 3187, 6159, and 7475. [Class 120 (ii).] In a swift or ryce for supporting hanks when unwinding yarns therefrom of the kind in which the hank supporting arms 3, Figs. 1 and 3, are inwardly and outwardly movable within predetermined limits, each arm 3 is connected by a rigid link 9 to a member 7 freely turnable on the spindle 8 so as to ensure equal and synchronous radial movement of the arms and permitting the arins to move outwards under centrifugal force so as to maintain the hank taut. The arms are secured to cylindrical. members 3a accommodated in tubular members 2 secured to the hub 1, the members 3a being urged outwardly by springs 5. Intercommunicating air cushioning or balancing holes 4, Fig. 3, may be provided. Alternatively holes 4a are provided at the bottom of each tube 2. According to the first Provisional Specification, guides adjustable on the members 2 and encircling the ends of the arms 3 may be provided to limit the outward movement of the arms.
