Abstract

354,445. Skein holders or swifts. ROYSANCOUR, O. G. J. S. DE, Breda, Holland. May 29, 1930, No. 16675. Convention date, March 29. [Class 120 (ii).] A collapsable swift or reel for skeins or cakes of yarn, rayon, or the like comprises resilient arms which are substantially parallel to the axis of the reel and form an acute angle with the axis of the reel and with the free ends of the arms which constitute yarn carriers. The resilient arms 3 are fixed to a spindle 1 by means of a sleeve 2 which surrounds a preferably square tube in which the arms 3 are enclosed. The reel is collapsed to the position shown in dotted lines by means of a device 6, into the opening 7 of which the reel is pushed, deflections 4 being provided in the arm of the reel to prevent slipping. In the collapsed position the free edges of the yarn-carrying surfaces remain at a substantially constant distance from the axis of the reel while the other edge is brought much closer to the axis of the reel. The yarn-carrying surfaces 5 of the reel are either concave or may be corrugated to prevent shifting of the skeins on the reel. In a modified form the arms of the reel instead of being resilient in themselves are resiliently mounted for example in a holder of rubber.
