Abstract
390,710. Spray carburetters. BARBAROU, M. J. B., 28, Boulevard d'Argenson, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. Aug. 25, 1932, No. 23771. Convention date, Aug. 27, 1931. [Class 7 (iii).] In order, particularly in aircraft engines, to prevent fuel from being drawn through the slow-running duct when the throttle is closed, the said duct is provided with a valve, adapted to be actuated, through elastic means, from the throttle valve or independently, whereby the slow-running duct can be closed and the engine stopped. The slow-running system comprises a well 5 into which dips a tube 7 which communicates through passages 11, 12 and aperture 13 with the induction passage 2 at the edge of the throttle valve 4. The aperture 13 is always slightly open even in the completely closed position of the throttle valve. The upper end of the tube 7 terminates in a plug 9 having a bore 14 in which is adapted to slide the stem 15 of a needle valve 16 which can seat on the upper end of the tube. The upper end 17 of the valve has a slot 18 through which passes a pin 19 attached to a pair of links 20 connected by a lever 22 and rod 24 to the throttle or an independent control. The valve is urged towards its closed position by a spring 25 bearing against a collar 26 and fixed abutment 27. The needle 16 is first raised to provide slow-running fuel, and then the throttle is opened. During slowing down, the throttle is moved to closed position, but needle 16 is still open thus producing slow-running conditions. Further closing movement cuts off the slow-running fuel and definitely stops the engine.
