Abstract

389,649. Pistons. FLOWER, A., 22, Lonsdale Road, Barnes, London. March 9, 1932, Nos. 7070 and 21182. [Class 122 (i).] In a piston of the kind comprising a light metal head 2 and a cast iron or steel skirt 5, the latter is formed with flat annular portions beneath the gudgeon pin bosses through which it is attached to the head. Flanges 7 extending inwardly from the flat portions may be cast into ribs or bosses 10 on the head or may be pressed into recesses therein by conical nuts 13 screwed on bolts 11 cast in the head. Alternatively bolts 15 may extend through the flat portions to secure the skirt. Rotation of the nut and bolt are prevented by a washer 17 having an upturned flange 18 and a pin 21 respectively. An enlarged portion 22 on the bolt absorbs the shear load. Specification 389,387 is referred to.
