[Class 120 (i).] In a revolving flat carding-engine of the kind having a circular brush e, Fig. 1, for stripping the flats d and a high-speed cylinder f for clearing the product from impurities and restoring it to the main cylinder a, an intermediate roller c is disposed between the brush e and cylinder f to prevent the brush becoming choked. The roller c is rotated in the opposite direction to the brush e and at a higher speed while it is periodically cleared against the brush f by reversing its direction of rotation. Grooved pulleys g, h, Fig. 2, driven in opposite directions are freely mounted on the shaft j of the roller c and a clutch i fixed on the shaft j is alternately engaged with one or other of the pulleys g, h. Axial movement of the pulleys g, h is controlled by a clutch fork k, k<1> having a lever n pivoted thereto at l, the end r of the fork k engaging behind an abutment s<1> on the disc s, Fig. 3, and a roller o on the lever n engaging a face cam q thereon. On rotation of the disc s the lever n is urged to the right and when the roller o reaches the point q<2> the fork is released by the abutment s<1> and under the action of the spring p moves the pulleys g, h to reverse the rotation of the shaft j. When the roller o again reaches the lower part of the cam q the members n, k, g, h are restored to their original positions by the return spring m.
