[Class 126.] Grates.-An air-preheater chamber a for a domestic stove or the like surrounds the fireplace on three sides, that part forming the back of the grate being tapered upwardly for the whole of its length and having an upwardly facing slot c which extends the whole width of the back and delivers a vertical jet of air, and each side part having substantially parallel side walls and a slot c<1> which extends the full width of the wall and delivers a jet of preheated air at an angle to the vertical, the three slots c, c<1> being tapered, and the walls having hori. zontal slots f primarily for heating the air.
