[Class 92 (ii).] Relates to means for locking the cam-operated firing plunger 1 of a gear for synchronizing the fire of machine guns between the propeller blades of aircraft. The locking means, which, during firing is held inoperarive by the pull on a Bowden cable 17, is according to the invention designed to permit of a few extra strokes of the plunger after the release of the cable 17 to ensure firing the last cartridge left in the chamber of the gun. The locking means is in the form of a ratchet wheel 14 mounted on one of arms 12 of a bell-crank lever the other arm of which is movable by the cable 17 against the action of a spring 16 to release the ratchet wheel from a recess 15 in the plunger 1. During this movement, one arm of a detent 18 engages, a fixed stop 21 to release the other arm from the ratchet wheel which is then moved in the anti-clockwise direction by a torsion spring to bring a pin 22 on the wheel against a stop 23 on the arm 12. On release of the cable 17, the plunger 1 continues to reciprocate under the action of its operating cam until the ratchet wheel is returned step by step into the locking position shown with its pin 22 resting against a stop 24 on the arm 12. The firing plunger actuates the gun trigger through a transmission consisting of a string of balls 8.
