Abstract
387,293. Starting. PEDROLI, S., Aulnay-la-Riviere, Loiret, France. Oct. 15, 1932, No. 28854. Convention date, Oct. 16, 1931. [Class 7 (v).] To facilitate starting of an internalcombustion engine, fuel, maintained at a constant level in a closed container 18 by a float 19 and valve, is sucked therefrom, together with air drawn in through bubbling tubes 20, along a conduit 21 to a cylinder 27, a piston 29, Fig. 2, which normally closes the orifice of the conduit 21, being withdrawn manually against spring action to expose that orifice and air inlet ports 34 ; the mixture then passes along a pipe 28 to the induction pipe of the engine. The piston 29 may be operated by a lever 33 on the dashboard or by a pin on the piston rod which is rotated to co-operate with notched inclines on the cylinder end. A check valve in a casing 22 in the conduit 21 is lifted by the engine suction and excessive lift is prevented by a gauze screen which also prevents backfiring. In a modified form of cylinder, a piston 42, Fig. 9, has cutaway flanges 46, 47 which compel the mixture, drawn through the conduit 21 past a channelled piston 52 seated on teeth 53, to follow a sinuous path, air being drawn through an aperture 54 between the end wall of the cylinder and a cut-away portion 50 of the piston 42.
