Abstract
387,110. Signs. ERICSSON TELEPHONES, Ltd., 67, Kingsway, London, and GREEN, B. A., 3, Bramcote Road, Beeston, Nottingham. Jan. 21, 1932, No. 1862. [Class 3 (ii).] Articles or surfaces not adapted to be easily cut are marked with designs to be viewed by transmitted light, for use as a signal indicator or illuminated sign, by applying two or more layers of materials of different colour or appearance and cutting through the outside layer and into but not through an under layer. A sheet of glass G, Fig. 3, has applied to it three layers, A of translucent cellulose enamel, B of transparent resin varnish, and C of opaque cellulose lacquer. The markings are cut through layer C and into layer B. The plate may be viewed from the glass side and the markings are only visible by transmitted light. If it is immaterial whether the characters are visible by reflected light, the translucent layer A may be omitted, or the plate may be viewed from the coated side, or the layer A may be replaced by a translucent layer applied to the coated side of the plate after engraving. In another form the layer A is omitted but mirror glass is used. Alternatively a coloured or translucent layer may be applied to the opposite side of the glass, or the opposite side may be frosted, or the glass itself be coloured, and may vary in tint or shade over different parts of the plate.
