Abstract
373,150. Luminous signs. NEWMAN, J. W., 1, Harcourt Buildings, Temple, London. Feb. 16, 1931, No. 4910. Addition to 349,617. [Class 3 (ii).] In signs according to the parent Specification the lateral or frontal portions or both of the glass sheets forming the letters are frosted, ground, flashed, or coated with paper, paint or other material to any desired extent to form any desired arrangement of opaque and plain or coloured light emitting areas. As shown, the frontal parts 2 are rendered opaque, while the lateral parts 1 are rendered light-transmitting by frosting or the like, but this arrangement may be reversed. According to further modifications, opaque borders enclosing illuminated parts may be formed on any part of the letters, the letters may be thinly silvered to produce a reflective effect by day and a light-transmitting effect at night, or the letters may be uniformly frosted all over to produce even illumination of the whole.
