Abstract
385,592. Elastic-fluid turbines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Bloomberg, D. J. ; 91, Cottage Street, Chelsea, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) March 24, 1931, No. 9044. Convention date, March 24, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 110 (iii).] The buckets 6 of elastic-fluid turbines are formed with axially extending skirts 8, 9 to shield the the main fluid flow from interference by the radial flow set up in the fluid which has leaked into the interdiaphragm space. The bucket bases are formed with through passages 10 whereby the leakage currents can pass to the nozzle inlets of the next diaphragm 11 which are curved as at 12 to permit easy entrance of the leakage fluid which is directed by the skirt 9 on the outlet side of the buckets in a direction parallel with the main flow. Alternatively, the inlet skirt 8 may be provided by a strip 18, set in the diaphragm, as shown in Fig. 3, which further shows the disc rotor 20 as integral with the shaft 21.
