Abstract

385,124. Reciprocating pumps. PAGLTUCHI, F. D., 421, West 28th Street, New York, U.S.A. Jan. 22, 1932, No. 2009. [Class 102 (i).] In a pump for raising liquids from mines &c. the pressure in the rising main 1 is partially balanced by the head of liquid in a pipe 2, which acts on one side of the pump piston 7. The liquid in the pipe 2. is acted on by a piston 20, provided with a check valve 21, and operated by a steam or other motor 23. The return stroke of the piston 7 is effected by the pressure in the rising main 1 acting on a piston 9, moving in a cylinder 6, and connected by a rod 8 to the piston 7. The pump cylinder 3 is provided with a suction valve 19 and a discharge valve 16 and is connected by a pipe 15 and union 13 to the rising main 1. The union 13 also communicates with the cylinder 6 through a passage controlled by a three-way valve 11 operated by a piston 31, the cylinder 30 of which is supplied with motive fluid by a pipe 29 controlled by a valve 28. The latter is operated by an arm 25 on the piston-rod 24 of the cylinder 23, the arm 25 engaging tappets 26 on the valve-rod 27.
