Abstract
In a thermo-aluminic method of making substantially aluminium-free alloys of beryllium with heavy metals such as copper, iron, nickel, and cobalt, a calcium-magnesium alloy is used as the reducing agent, with or without a limited amount of aluminium or an aluminium-magnesium alloy. The mixture may also include chlorates or peroxides to increase the heat of reaction, and lime, fluorspar, alumina, &c. to obtain a more fluid slag.
