Abstract

Azo dyes are made in substance or on the fibre by coupling a diazotized amino-indolenaphthalene or amino-indoleanthracene indigo with an acyl acetic acid arylide. Green dyestuffs insoluble in water are obtained. In examples: (1) cotton impregnated with diaceto - acetyl - o - tolidine is developed with diazotized 5 - aminoindole - 4<1> - methoxynaphthaleneindigo or (2) with diazotized 5-aminoindole - 4<1> - chloronaphthaleneindigo, (3) the dyestuff 5-aminoindole-4<1>-methoxynaphthaleneindigo----> acetoacetic acid-o-anisidide is prepared in substance, (4) cotton is padded with benzoylacetic acid anilide and developed with diazotized 5-aminoindole-4<1>-methoxynaphthaleneindigo. Specification 210,217, [Class 2 (iii). Dyes &c.], is referred to. Aminoindolenaphthalene and aminoindoleanthracene indigos are made by converting the corresponding nitroisatin (obtained by nitration) into the nitroisatin chloride by the action of phosphorus pentachloride, condensing with the corresponding naphthol or hydroxyanthracene and reducing the nitro-indigo thus obtained.
