Abstract
302,599. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Dec. 17, 1927, [Convention date]. Azo dyes.-Azo dyes, insoluble in water and of good fastness to light, are produced in substance or on the fibre by coupling with arylides of 2 : 3- oxynaphthoic acid diazotized dihalogen-2-aminotoluenes carrying one halogen in 4-position and carrying at least one bromine atom. The following examples are specified : (1) Well-boiled cotton yarn is dyed a vivid bluish red, very fast to light, by impregnating in a grounding liquor containing the 2<1> : 5<1>-dimethoxyanilide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid and developing with diazotized 4-chloro-5- bromo-2-aminotoluene. (2) A similar bluish red dyeing is obtained by grounding with the 2<1>- or 4<1>-anisidide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid and developing as in (1), and a similar dull alizarin red dyeing is obtained by grounding with the 5<1>- chloro-2<1>-anisidide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid and developing as in (1). (3) A bluish red dyeing is obtained by grounding with the 51-chloro-21- anisidide of 2: 3-oxynaphthoic acid and developing with diazotized 4: 5-dibromo-2-aminotoluene, and a vivid yellowish red by grounding with the 2'- or 4<1>-anisidide or the 2<1> : 5<1>-dimethoxyanilide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid and developing similarly. (4) The bluish red dyestuff 4-chloro-5- bromo-2-aminotoluene # the 4'-anisidide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid is produced in substance. Specifications 6379/12, and 17279/13, [Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for], are referred to. 5-Bromo-4-chloro-2-amitotoluene is obtained by acetylating 4-chloro-2-aminotoluene by means of acetic anhydride, brominating the product, and saponifying to remove the acetyl group. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use as diazo component of any dihalogen-2-aminotoluene carrying one halogen in 4-position and carrying at least one halogen atom other than chlorine. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
