Abstract
<PICT:0383709/III/1> In degreasi metal and other articles by condensation therein of solvent vapour, e.g. trichlorethylene, escape of vapour from the open tank a employed is prevented by connecting it near the top to a condensing chamber e. The chamber e may contain or be surrounded by a cooling coil f; the condensed solvent may return to the tank by a pipe h, or it may be collected in an annular trough i and run off through a tap j. The solvent condensed in the tank a is run off through an outlet c to the evaporator; or it may be purified by vaporizing in the tank a and condensing in the chamber e. In small apparatus the vapour for cleaning may be generated within the tank a by heating the bottom, then the heating stopped and the work introduced, causing condensation of the vapour, the vaporizing and condensation of the solvent alternating as often as desired. The chamber e may be arranged in a compartment formed in one side of or beneath the tank a. Specifications 326,299 and 329,156, [both in Class 91, Oils &c.], are referred to.
