Abstract
383,283. Refrigerating. ELECTROLUX, Ltd., 153, Regent Street, London.- (Assignees of Platen-Munters Refrigerating System Aktiebolag ; 2, Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm.) July 29, 1931, No. 26424/32. Convention date, Aug. 13, 1930. Divided on 382,654. [Class 29.] Absorption systems.-In continuous-cycle inert gas systems wherein the circulation of liquid is effected by gas put under pressure periodically by means of liquid columns and then released, the conduit conveying liquid from a low pressure chamber to a high pressure chamber is divided to provide a plurality o f liquid columns in series, whereby the height of the apparatus is reduced. The generator 10 is divided into two chambers as shown and expelled vapour passes from the upper chamber to the rectifier and condenser through a pipe 11. The lower chamber, constituting the " pumping " chamber 20, communicates with the absorber 16 by a pipe 21, and is also connected through a " valve " pipe 23 and a U-pipe 25 with the vapour pipe 11. Two pipes 24a, 24b forming part of the circulation control extend from an intermediate chamber 31 to the lower and upper chambers of the generator, and the chamber 31 communicates with the vapour pipe 11 by a pipe 32. On heating the " pumping " chamber liquid is forced into the pipes 25, 24a to form columns therein, and rises into the absorber through pipe 21. The liquid rises in chamber 31 and seals the end of pipe 32, and pressure is built up until the seal in the " valve " pipe is broken, when pressures are momentarily equalized and liquid flows from the upper generator chamber through the pipe 24b, chamber 31 and pipe 24a to the " pump " chamber.
