Abstract

501,398. Refrigerating. HOOVER, Ltd. Aug. 19, 1937, No. 22756. Convention date, Aug. 26, 1936. [Class 29] Absorption machines and systems.-A continuous absorption refrigerating apparatus employing an inert pressure-equalizing gas is provided with a twin gas-lift pump for raising weak absorption liquid to the upper ends of the absorbers A, the pump comprising a U- tube connected through a pipe B<3> with the generator B, and an inverted U-tube connected through a pipe M with the outlet pipe F<3> of the inert gas-circulating fan F, and through the limbs M<1>, M<2> with the limbs L<1>, L<2> of the U-tube. The gas bubbles are stated to pass alternately into the limbs L', L<2> so that liquid is discharged alternately from the upper ends thereof. In a modification, the limbs discharge the liquid into the upper end of a single absorber. In another form of apparatus, in which the pump is employed to raise liquid refrigerant to the upper ends of two interconnected evaporators, the U-tube is connected through a pipe C<1>, Fig. 2, with the condenser C, while the inverted U-tube is connected through a pipe K with the outlet pipe of the gas-circulating fan F. In this case, the condenser is provided with a gas vent pipe C<2> connected to the inverted U-tube, and a condensate overflow pipe C<3> connected to the strong liquor return pipe H<1> between the reservoir H and the generator B. Specification 501,399 is referred to.
