383,126. Stuffing-box substitutes. RIGA, J., Avenue du Marechal Foch, Longwy Bas, France. Feb. 12, 1932, No. 4280. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1931. [Class 122 (v).] The shaft W of a centrifugal pump is packed by a sleeve A secured to the shaft, formed with helical grooves r and enclosed in a chamber B supplied with liquid. On rotation of the shaft the grooves r impel the liquid axially at high speed through a small annular orifice O, thus preventing leakage of air into the pump.
