Abstract

<PICT:0382891/III/1> Oils which have been distilled with steam are condensed and separated therefrom by passing the mixed vapours from a pipe 2 through a condenser 1 to a combined cooler and separator 3 having tubes 10 through which the cooling liquid flows in countercurrent to the oil in known manner and which is provided with an upper portion free from liquid to which the uncondensed vapours from the condenser are passed through a pipe 12. The separator may comprise two nested cylinders 8, 15, the oil passing from the inner cylinder 8 into the outer through pipes 13, 14 while the water flows through a pipe 16. The mixed liquids are led to the inner cylinder through a pipe 7 and the separated oil and water flow off through pipes 17, 18. Pipes 19, 20 permit escape of air.
