Abstract

A two-stage vacuum evaporator for removing volatile constituents from used lubricating oil &c., comprises a vertical tube preheater 1 connected to a riser pipe 10 at its upper end and a distillation chamber 11 surrounding the <PICT:0452087/III/1> riser pipe and being provided with a conical heated bottom, the preheated liquid flowing from the riser pipe through an outlet pipe 15 to a spiral or tortuous channel 14 arranged on the bottom of the distillation chamber. The outlet of the riser pipe is directed into the vapour outlet pipe 20, for removal of volatile constituents, which is connected to an air pump and a cooler. The channel 14 of the distillation chamber is connected by a return pipe 16 with the heating jacket 17 of the preheater. The channel 14 is heated by electric heaters 13 and by hot compressed air issuing from apertures in a spiral pipe 30 arranged within the spiral channel and each turn of which is connected to a feed pipe 32 which is in turn connected to a preheated coil 32<a> arranged beneath the distillation chamber. The heating jacket 17 is connected to the collecting vessel 21, which preferably surrounds the preheater, by a pipe 22. Sampling vessels 24, 24<a> are also provided. A branch pipe 29, from the liquid feed pipe 7 is connected directly to the pipe 15, the preheater then being byepassed.
