Abstract
165,226. Arii, J. March 25, 1920. Fats and fatty oils, extracting by solvents. An apparatus for extracting fat or oil by volatile solvents comprises an extraction chamber a having lateral tubes 3 heated by vapours from an outer still b, and valved pipes 14, 16, and a pipe 9, three - way valve 10, siphon 12, and pipe 11 for connecting the chamber and still at top and bottom respectively. After the chamber has been charged with meal and the still with solvent from a pipe 23, steam from a pipe 8 is passed into the jacket J, perforated coil 20, and heating-coil 5, and the mixed solvent vapour and steam pass through the pipes 3, 16, 17, and three-way valve 34 and a spiral tube 30 to a condenser 31 and separating chamber from which the liquid solvent falls through pipe 18 into the extraction chamber. When the solvent extract has accumulated sufficiently it siphons over to the still b from which the solvent is again vaporized and circuited. When extraction is complete all extract is run into the still by connecting pipes 9, 11 directly, and valve 34 is turned so that the solvent vapour passes through pipe 17, spiral 29, pipe 33, and a condenser to the solvent reservoir; the extracted oil is withdrawn from the still through the pipe 26.
