Abstract

240,502. Crozier, R. H. April 4, 1924. Rectifiers. - Vapours of hydrocarbon oils or other liquids are fractionally condensed by passage in succession up columns A containing coils B through which steam or other heating agent is passed and down columns C containing coils D through which water or other cooling fluid is passed. The condensates from the columns are collected in vessels E which may be discharged by cocks e or may be arranged so that the condensates pass through them in series to a vessel 1 into which the vapour supply pipe 2 dips. Baffles F cause the vapours to pass through the columns and baffles G having serrated edges dipping just below the surfaca of the liquid cause the vapours to pass through the liquid on entering each section. Vapours pass round the lowest baffle F by a by-pass K. In distilling oil from shale &c. as described in Specifioation 212,770, or in distilling oil by passage through a series of stills, each vapour pipe leads into a separate series of columns A, B. The condensate from the vessel 1 of each series is lead into the vessel 1 of the next hotter series and the cool condensarbe from the end vessel L of each series is lead to the vessel 1 of the next cooler series. Steam may be passed into any of the collecting vessels. The vessels 1 may be heated.
