Abstract
382,538. Steam turbines. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE., Baden, Switzerland. April 4, 1932, No. 9681. Convention date, April 4, 1931. [Class 110 (iii).] In an extraction turbine, when the turbine is disconnected from the heating network, the overflow valves to the lower stage ar opened automatically without being influenced by the usual pressure regulator. In Fig. 1 the first stage valves 1 are actuated by oil-servo pistons 3 under the control of a governor 10, and the lower stage or overflow valves 2 by pistons 4, the oil supply for which is that prevailing in the governor system, but the pressure of which is further controlled by a valve 5 responsive to the pressure in the extraction pipe 11. This arrangement provides control during normal operation. When, however, the combined non- return and shut-off valve 16, 17, in the extraction pipe is closed by the hand-wheel 14, a finger 15 on the stem 13 opens a valve 9 in a short-ci cuiting pipe 8 so that pressure oil is supplied to the pistons 4 independently of the regulating valve 5, and the overflow valves 2 are thereby opened. In a modification the valves are opened by oil supplied direct by the pump 20. The extraction valve has two seats 16, 17, the upper of which may be elastic. Leakage steam between the seats when closed is led away by an escape valve 18.
