[Class 126.] Combined open fireplaces and cooking stoves; dampers.-In a back-to-back open fireplace and cooking stove having a wash-boiler 3 combined with it, the gases from the open fireplace, which faces into the adjacent room, pass by an inclined flue 21, having in it a damper 22 operable from the front of the stove, to a jacket space around the boiler. In the construction shown, the gases pass round a vertical radially-arranged baffle 24 and a horizontal baffle 26 in the jacket space, and thence by a curved flue 27 to the chimney. A gas ring or other source of heat may be provided for the boiler when the fire is not in use. The gases from the open fireplace may also pass by a flue 7 to the bottom oven flue, and thence by side flues 8 controlled by connected sliding dampers 13 to the top flue 9. In addition, the gases may pass up a flue between a boiler 6 and the back of the oven and thence under control of a double damper shown in Fig. 4 to the top flue 9. This damper comprises a plate 18 sliding in guides on a larger sliding plate 19, the first part of the movement opening the damper 18, until it engages the end of the guides, when both plates move together.
