Fireplaces; baffles; smoke-consuming.-A baffle of fireclay or asbestos, somewhat wider than the register opening, is placed in the position of the register-plate in an ordinary fireplace at such an angle as to leave room for draught and to allow the impinging flame to heat it, thereby increasing the heat and abating the smoke from the stove. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of a fireplace with the baffle in position, and Fig. 2 is a front view, to an enlarged scale, of the baffle, which is preferably provided with holes as shown.
